ROMAN APPLE CAKE
Frances Zager Teshner used to make this in the 1950's.
Mix:
1 c shortening
1 c sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
Stir in:
2 eggs
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking power
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
2 1/2 c flour
Then add:
2 c sliced peeled apples
Pour into 9" x 13" pan and sprinkle with topping while preheating the oven to 350.
Topping: Mix together:
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c chopped walnuts
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
